Builders creating their instruments vary from Person to Person ...... Although the basic Tuning process is the same there are considerable differences in production techniques and methods of manufacture.
In the near future I will be making 2 distinct Models of handpan .
(in Various Different Scales)
The is completely hand hammered (and engraved) from start to end .. no presses, no pneumatic tools , just a hammer, a flat sheet of steel and a good eye alongside some busy Hands & Ears. Although this is a much slower process it provides a completely unique, bespoke instrument that is a 1 of 1 production.
The is made with the same passion , energy and love , however the blank shells are made by Hydroforming the steel and Pneumatic presses are used to form the dimples/tonefields etc and the engraving is machine/laser cut.
This is no less a beautiful instrument ... just made in a less labour intensive way.
